What is FUE?
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) removes individual follicular units one by one from the donor zone, usually the back and sides of the scalp, using a fine punch. There is no linear strip removed. Tiny puncture sites heal as pinpoint marks that are typically hard to see once hair grows out.
FUE suits patients who wear their hair short, want a quicker return to desk work, or prefer to avoid a strip scar. It is the method most of our patients choose for hairline, crown, beard and eyebrow work.
What is FUT?
Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), sometimes called the strip method, removes a narrow strip of scalp from the donor area. Follicular units are then dissected under magnification and placed into the recipient zone. The donor site is closed with sutures, leaving a fine linear scar that is usually covered by surrounding hair.
FUT can be useful when a high graft count is needed in a single session, or when preserving the option of shorter styles is less important than maximising yield from a limited donor area.
